A makeup artist from Chicago is raising awareness of vitiligo by incorporating her unique patches into jaw-dropping looks.
Lauren Leonard, 26, first started developing vitiligo as a child when it started appearing on her knees. It wasn’t until she was 20-years-old that it started on her face, with white patches forming around her eyes. These patches she now uses in stunning make-up routines and special effects.
Speaking to Refinery29, Lauren said:
“At first it was really hard for me to get used to it because I wasn’t in a confident place. I thought the spots on my face would take away from my looks, but now I think it adds to it – and makes it even cooler.”
Lauren began Instagram blogging her bold, beautiful creations. Looks include bright, glossy eyes and she is inspired by extreme designs that are very artistic and conceptual.
After showing the world via Instagram, Lauren was overwhelmed with positive feedback. She now has over 300k followers.
“I love hearing from people who have vitiligo or other skin conditions. I didn’t have anybody to look up to when I was a kid and I love being a source of inspiration for people.”
“I hope that I’m showing people that you don’t have to let something as silly as a skin condition keep you from doing what you want to do, or looking how you want to look.”
What do you think? We’re definitely impressed!
